A video screening and panel discussion exploring the colourful, outrageous and deeply personal connections that have made Karangahape Road a cultural and spiritual home for Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland’s rainbow communities across the generations.
The evening will feature a series of candid video interviews with takatāpui, queer and gender diverse folk who have lived and worked on Karangahape Road from the 1970s until the present day – followed by a moderated discussion that delves into the queer whakapapa, true stories and urban legends that have carved out a unique place for K’ Road in the heart of Aotearoa New Zealand’s rainbow communities.
Join us for nibbles and drinks from 5.30pm. The video screening starts at 6pm with the panel discussion and question time to follow. Then at 7:30pm will be the launch of The Manager’s Office; an 80’s inspired private hire bar at the back of Monster Valley.
To coincide with this event, the whole of K’ Road will be hosting an extended Karangahape Hour! All evening on Thursday 25 February, K’ Road’s bars and restaurants will be offering a kaleidoscope of Pride specials, plus all your favourite shops will be open late until 9pm.
Wheelchair access available. The event will also be livestreamed for those unable to attend in person.
