Rainbow Histories & Human Rights Workshop

Rainbow Histories & Human Rights Workshop

Tuesday 30 March, 5pm

Ellen Melville Centre  2 Freyberg Place, Auckland Central
Free Event

This workshop will include a presentation on Rainbow histories and human rights. There will be a presentation and this will be followed by a group discussion.

The presenter is a human right law scholar from South Asia who has been living in Aotearoa for the last 20 years. He has a Master of Laws (Honours) in Human Rights Law. He has an interest in legal histories and civic education. His identity needs to be kept private due to homophobia from his community. One of the aims of this event is to bring together those in the Rainbow community interested in human rights and histories. If you would like to understand human rights law issues related to Rainbow communities, this workshop could be a good starting point.

Because history is such a broad topic and there will be many intersecting identities, the workshop is not meant to be exhaustive. There will be some element of selection of topics. Issues such as the impact of colonialism on rainbow communities and systematic discrimination and hate speech will be covered. We will have time for a lively discussion.

This activity is part of Proud Centres – Auckland Council initiative supporting the 2021 Auckland Pride Festival by transforming arts, community and events venues into Proud Centres and hosting a series of over 150 FREE diverse, inclusive events across Tāmaki Makaurau.
