Join us for a very special screening of NZ’s groundbreaking transgender triumph, RŪRANGI THE MOVIE, followed by a Q&A with cast and creators. Proceeds from the night go to RainbowYOUTH.
See Rūrangi in cinemas around Aotearoa from Feb 4.
Created by and starring gender diverse talent, Rūrangi is a victory for trans representation both on and behind our screens – and there’s just no better way to experience this story than with a full house of queers and our allies.
Rūrangi follows Caz, a trans activist who returns home to small town New Zealand to reconnect with his roots – and according to flicks.co.nz “will make you laugh, cry and cry again”. Rūrangi stars smouldering trans newcomer Elz Carrad, Arlo Green, and a largely Māori cast including Kirk Torrance, Āwhina Rose-Ashby and K Rd’s beloved singer/songwriter/actress/TV personality Ramon Te Wake.
This glittering night comes hot on the heels of winning the Audience Award for BEST FEATURE at San Francisco’s Frameline LGBTQi Film Festival, and heralds Rūrangi’s triumphant return to Tāmaki Makaurau, where it all began. The cast and creators will be present for a Q&A after the screening, and then we’ll adjourn to the Rialto bar for a complimentary drink courtesy of Spencer Block Wines.
So wear whatever you feel fabulous in, help support RainbowYOUTH and join in the media buzz of the tour’s opening night for a groundbreaking LGBTQi Kiwi film we can all be proud of.

At Alert Level two or higher, Rūrangi's launch event will be postponed - we will contact you via the email address supplied at the time of your booking, and put updates on our Rūrangi Facebook Page. As this event is a fundraiser for RainbowYouth, we encourage - with deepest thanks - ticket holders who cannot attend the new date to gift your tickets to a lucky someone who can (you'll make their day!). However if this is simply not possible, please email [email protected] to arrange a refund. Festival COVID-19 Information ›
